John Key should STFU.

8 03 2011

New Zealand needs leadership, and no where more so than Christchurch as we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and start all over again.

John Key is not providing leadership. Gerry Brownlee is not providing leadership.

If it wasn’t bad enough having Gerry “Brownshirt”lee telling us our heritage buildings must go, no ifs, no buts, no maybes, just bowl the dungers down. Even though many of the “dungers” have already been earthquake strengthened and even though the death toll in the dungers was far lower than in more modern buildings, that’s not good enough for Gerry. maybe he’s feeling the heat from having achieved a big fat zero after the original quake…

But now we have John Key telling us 10,000 houses will be demolished, whole streets, neighbourhoods, maybe even suburbs abandoned for good.

According to the NZ Herald

Prime Minister John Key has conceded he received no official advice that some areas of quake-stricken Christchurch may need to be abandoned.

The concession comes as official Civil Defence figures show that some 2198 homes in Christchurch have been deemed unlivable – far less than the 10,000 homes Mr Key has said may need to be knocked down.

Mr Key yesterday said parts of Christchurch will have to be abandoned and up to 10,000 homes could be demolished as a result of last month’s earthquake.

This is not leadership, it’s rumour mongering.
